CITY2 Blanks North Texas SC, 2-0

CITY2 earned a huge victory over North Texas SC in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference Semifinals at Ralph Korte Stadium on Sunday night. The match ended 2-0 with goals coming in the second half from Tomás Ostrák and Célio Pompeu.

After a goalless first half that saw both teams misfiring in the final third, St Louis CITY2 opened the scoring in the 73rd minute. Pompeu dribbled past a defender out wide before sliding a cross to the edge of the penalty area to Ostrák who fired home to put CITY2 in the lead.

On the defensive end, Michael Creek made a brilliant save in the 88th minute to keep North Texas off the scoresheet and record his third clean sheet of the season.

With the match dwindling, North Texas threw numbers forward in search of the equalizer but found it difficult to create any dangerous goal-scoring chances. After winning the ball back in midfield, CITY2 launched a counterattack which led to a penalty in the 90th minute. Pompeu netted the subsequent spot kick to give CITY2 a 2-0 lead heading into the final minutes of the match.

With the win, CITY2 advances to the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference finals and will face the winner of Tacoma Defiance and Houston Dynamo 2. Fans will be able to watch the match live via enhanced broadcasts on mlsnextpro.com.
