US Men’s National Team Returns to Energizer Park on September 29

Impact Match, Presented by New York Life, Pits USMNT Against Chile in St. Louis, Mo. on Sept. 29;

Following the thrill of FIFA World Cup 2026 that captured the imagination of millions of Americans, the USMNT returns to action with an exciting slate of four international matches to kick off the new cycle. The series of games features back-to-back matchups against South American opposition in Peru and Chile, followed by classic Concacaf clashes with Mexico and Canada.

The quarter of fall matches will be the first in the new chapter of the USMNT as Mauricio Pochettino agreed to a new contract that will keep him as head coach through 2030.

On September 29, USA-Chile, the Impact Match presented by New York Life, kicks off at 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET) from Energizer Park in St. Louis, with the match against La Roja to be shown live on TNT, truTV, HBO Max, Universo, and Peacock.

All the USMNT matches will be carried live on radio as Westwood One Sports delivers English language commentary while longtime partner Fútbol de Primera has the Spanish language call.

"When we talk about a soccer culture in this country, St. Louis is one of the great examples," USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino said. "When we joined the Men’s National Team, our first official match at home was in St. Louis against Jamaica. Along with the amazing crowd, what we enjoyed the most was the great history and connection to the sport that we felt everywhere we went. This is a city where the national team feels at home."

The matches give fans in four cities that did not host World Cup matches a chance to cheer on a U.S. team that inspired millions of Americans with its 2026 FIFA World Cup run while also providing meaningful competition opportunities against two strong South American teams in Peru and Chile, in addition to fellow Round of 16 World Cup participants in Mexico and Canada. The games kick of a new cycle for the USMNT and the long road to the qualifying for 2030 FIFA World Cup which will be held in Morocco, Portugal and Spain with opening matches in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay being staged to mark the 100-year anniversary of the first World Cup.

Led by heralded domestic and international head coach Mano Menezes, Peru narrowly missed out on World Cup 2026 qualification in a daunting confederation featuring 2026 FIFA World Cup runners up Argentina. A 2025 debutant and current Vancouver Whitecaps FC player Kenji Cabrera leads a promising roster with emerging talents.

Chile had an exciting end to its summer campaign, defeating World Cup debutants DR Congo, 2-1 in a friendly just before the start of the tournament. La Roja is led by FC Midtjylland midfielder Dario Osorio, who scored the opening goal in the team’s latest victory.

Joining with the U.S. as one of the host countries during FIFA World Cup 2026, Mexico had an impactful tournament, playing all three group stage and both knockout matches at the Estadio Azteca. After a strong result against Ecuador and an inspired effort against England in the knockout rounds, Mexico vaulted up to 10th in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Rankings.

Serving as the other co-host of FIFA World Cup 2026, Canada made it to the Round of 16 before getting knocked out by AFCON title holders, Morocco. Les Rouges handled South Africa in its opening knockout round game after finishing second in Group B, which featured USMNT Round of 32 opponent Bosnia and Herzegovina.

CHILEAN HEAT CHECK  

La Roja will travel to play the U.S. for their 12th overall meeting and first since Mar. 26, 2019, a 1-1 draw in Houston, Texas through a Christian Pulisic goal. In a tightly contested series, Chile holds the edge all-time with the U.S. standing at a total record of 3W-5L-3D. Chile’s history with the U.S. dates back to July 2, 1950, when the sides met in the FIFA World Cup, a 5-2 defeat for the U.S. in Brazil. The U.S. met Chile once in a Copa América tournament on July 8, 1995, opening the competition with a 2-1 victory featuring two goals from Eric Wynalda. The USMNT went on to finish that tournament in fourth place, a joint-best finish with 2016.  

The Chilean national team is a historic South American powerhouse, putting in dominant performances throughout the 2010s including back-to-back Copa América titles in 2015 and 2016.  

The USMNT will return to Energizer Park in St. Louis, Mo. where the team holds a perfect 4W-0L-0D record, most recently earning a 2-1 victory against Guatemala on July 2, 2025, in the Concacaf Gold Cup.  St. Louis is the hometown of Tim Ream, captain of the USMNT 2026 FIFA World Cup team
