After drawing 2-2 in their first preseason match against Philadelphia Union, St. Louis CITY SC scored four unanswered goals against Inter Miami CF to claim their first win of the preseason. Indiana Vassilev, Lucas Bartlett (trialist), Samuel Adeniran and CĆ©lio Pompeu were on target for CITY SC. Ahead of the match both teams agreed to play two sixty-minute halves.
CITY SCās high energy pressing proved to be a problem for Inter Miami in the early stages. After creating a few quality looks on goal, St. Louis CITY was rewarded in the 39th minute after Vassilev powered in a freekick from distance. Bartlett doubled CITY SCās lead in the 64th minute after pouncing on a rebound following a corner kick. Adeniran added CITY SCās third goal of the night in the 89th minute. Adeniran latched onto Isak Jensenās pass in behind before dribbling past Inter Miamiās goalkeeper to pass the ball into the open net. Pompeu scored CITY SCās fourth in the 105th minute, slotting home from the penalty spot to close out the match.
Fifteen-year-olds Caden Glover and Tyson Pearce both featured for CITY SC in the win. St. Louis CITY returns to St. Louis and trains in market from February 1st through the 5th before traveling to Palm Springs, California for the Second Annual Coachella Valley Invitational.Ā
