Last Time Out
Before the FIFA international break, CITY SC earned their first win of the season, defeating New England Revolution 3-1 on Saturday night at Energizer Park. After New England opened the scoring, Simon Becher scored his first goal of the season to tie the match before Chris Durkin gave CITY SC the 2-1 lead in first half stoppage time. Marcel Hartel scored what became the MLS Goal of the Matchday, sealing the 3-1 win in the 83rd minute. The win marked CITY SC’s seventh all-time home victory against an Eastern Conference opponent and the first MLS win of Yoann Damet’s CITY SC era.
Team of the Matchday: Daniel Edelman
One of CITY SC’s newest additions, Daniel Edelman, has been a steady presence in the midfield through the first five matches of the season. Edelman was named to the bench for the Team of Matchday 5 by MLS, after recording his second assist of the season against New England. He completed 45 out of 49 accurate passes for a 92% pass accuracy rate. The American midfielder made his 100th career MLS appearance against LAFC and has started in all five matches for CITY since joining the club.
St. Louis CITY SC versus NYCFC
CITY SC’s only previous match against NYCFC was on March 2, 2024, at Energizer Park. The match saw Célio Pompeu and Sam Adeniran both score, leading CITY SC to a shutout victory over the visitors from the East Coast. Roman Bürki earned his first clean sheet of the season in 2024 against New York City FC. CITY’s most recent away match against an Eastern Conference opponent came last season at CF Montréal, where the team secured a 2-0 win with goals from Conrad Wallem and Marcel Hartel. The match will also mark a return of sorts for defender Dante Polvara who played in NYCFC’s academy team before making the move to Europe.
Scouting NYCFC
NYCFC have had a strong start to their season, winning three out of their five last games while scoring 13 goals. Foward Nicolas Fernández leads the club with five goals, while midfielder Maxi Moralez has a team high four assists, tied for first in MLS.
