In their last match, St. Louis CITY SC tied 2-2 with D.C. United to extend their unbeaten start to the season to five matches. Josh Yaro scored the match's opening goal before Klauss scored a penalty in the 70th minute to level the game after D.C. United took a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

With the tie, CITY SC became the first expansion team in MLS history to start their first two seasons unbeaten through the first five matches. St. Louis is just the fifth team to go unbeaten over the first five games in back-to-back season in MLS history (2014-15 Real Salt Lake, 2017-18 FC Dallas, 2019-20 LAFC, 2022-23 LAFC and 2023-24 FC Cincinnati). CITY SC kicked off their inaugural season in record-setting fashion, earning five victories in their first five matches, a feat that had never been accomplished by an expansion team in league history.

Yaro, who notched the first MLS goal of his career, was selected to the bench of the Team of the Matchday. CITY SC forward Klauss opened his 2024 account after dispatching his first penalty for the club. Klauss recorded the most shots (6), the most shots on target (2) and created the second most chances (2) in the match.

St. Louis sits in eighth place in the Western Conference standings and is one of six teams in the table with seven points. Through their first five matches, CITY SC is averaging 16 shots and two goals per match.

St. Louis is 0-0-2 in road matches this season. In both away matches, CITY came from behind to secure a point, the first against Austin FC (2-2) and the other against LA Galaxy (3-3).

The match will mark the fourth meeting between the two sides, with the all-time record between them currently 1-1-1. CITY SC opened the 2024 season at home against Real Salt Lake and after falling behind following a Cristian Arango goal, Sam Adeniran secured a point for the team after equalizing late in the match.

St. Louis split results in their two matches against Real Salt Lake last season, with both sides winning the away leg of the fixture. In the first match at America First Field, CITY SC dominated in a 4-0 win with goals from Niko Gioacchini, Klauss (2) and Rasmus Alm. At CITYPARK, Real Salt Lake defeated CITY SC 3-1.

Real Salt Lake boasts a 2-2-1 record and averages a goal per game. Salt Lake won their last match 2-1 on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps. In the match before, Salt Lake suffered their first home loss of the season against Colorado Rapids (2-1 L). Arango and Andrés Gómez lead the team with two goals. Gómez has also provided the most assists (2) for the team.
