St. Louis, get ready for Leagues Cup!
On Thursday, July 27, CITYPARK will host a meeting between St. Louis CITY SC and Liga MX’s Club América in a group stage match for Leagues Cup, a World Cup-style, Concacaf tournament between MLS and Mexico’s top professional league. The boys will play under the lights at 9:00 p.m.
Known for its high caliber of competition, Leagues Cup debuted in 2019 and has been reimagined and expanded for 2023 with all 47 clubs from Liga MX and MLS competing. (Both leagues are taking a pause in their respective seasons to compete.) The two teams that reach the Leagues Cup Final as well as the team that wins the third-place match will earn berths to the 2024 Concacaf Champions League, with the winner automatically advancing to that tournament's Round of 16.
Leagues Cup is happening now through August 19, with all 77 matches being played in the U.S. or Canada. CITY SC is in the Central 1 Group alongside 2020 MLS Cup Champions Columbus Crew and 13-time league champion Club América, which is based in Mexico City. CITY SC dropped the opening match of their Leagues Cup campaign 2-1 to Columbus Crew.
