Academy Recap: 2023-2024 Season Kicks off with a Strong Start

For St. Louis CITY SC Academy’s U-15, U-16 and U-17 teams, the weekend marked the beginning of the 2023-24 MLS NEXT season. All three squads continued their impressive form from last season, notching a combined 3-0-0 record against Michigan Wolves.

U-15s pour in five goals in commanding win
The U-15 squad put on a show in their opening match of the season, with five different players inking their names on the scoresheet. Rian Zinzuwadia, Jack Hennessy, Brendan McCrory, Yuichiro Ota and Chianozie Nwankwo all found the back of the net. Ota, McCrory and Nwankwo (2) also recorded assists in the U-15s' 5-1 victory.

U-16s edge Wolves in nail-biter
In a low-scoring affair, the U-16 squad dug deep and outlasted their competition to earn three points. Forward Chidube Nwankwo scored the match’s lone goal to give the U-16s a 1-0 victory.

U-17s can’t be stopped in high-scoring win
The first of the Academy teams to play on Saturday, the U-17s put out a statement performance against Michigan Wolves. Five different players recorded a goal contribution during the match. A hat-trick from Nathan Null, brace from Ryan Dugan and goal from Carson Locker comprised the U-17s' six (6) goals on the day. Dugan (2), Lorenzo Cornelius (2), Locker and Anden Ellis all tallied assists in the 6-4 win.

What’s Next?
After opening their season with a dominant 8-3 victory over Pre-College DA, the St. Louis CITY SC Academy’s UPSL team resumes action with an away match against Jackson Tennessee Boom on Saturday, September 9. The U-15, U-16 and U-17 teams will all return home to continue their seasons on September 9 as well, with the U-15s and U-17s competing against their Chicago Fire FC Academy counterparts and the U-16s taking on SC Wave.
