PERSONAL QUALITIES REQUIRED OF A HOMESTAY PLAYER

  2. Independence
  3. Eagerness to engage with the host family
  4. Flexibility

THE PLAYER IS EXPECTED TO:

  1. Understand and follow homestay rules and expectations.
  2. Communicate with homestay family daily, particularly if there are changes, illnesses, and injuries.
  3. Communicate schedule and needs to Academy & parents as needed.
  4. Be responsible for schoolwork.
  5. Independently wake up and go to sleep.
  6. Be timely in homestay departures, pick-ups, and arrivals.
  7. Know how to do laundry and prepare/cook food if permitted by homestay family.
  8. Understand and complete homestay chores and offer additional help when possible.
  9. Engage with homestay family.
  10. Keep his room, his bathroom, and common spaces clean in a prompt and appropriate manner.
  11. Say “Excuse me,” “Please,” and “Thank You” exhibiting appropriate manners.

THE PLAYER'S FAMILY'S RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  1. Being a “safe place” by actively knowing what is going on with the player’s mental and physical health.
  2. Communicating with the homestay family and the Academy with openness, flexibility, and honesty.
  3. Knowing how the player is doing with his schoolwork and academic progress.
  4. Being active in discipline of the player.
  5. Being proactive with money and having a plan for expenses outside of what the Academy stipend covers.
  6. Always keeping the player’s family health insurance up to date.
  7. Taking responsibilities from the homestay family when appropriate.
  8. Finding lots of ways to thank the homestay family.
