St Louis CITY2’s 2022 schedule for the upcoming inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season is finally here! All eyes will be on STL CITY2 as the club hosts the league’s first-ever match at home against Rochester New York FC on Friday, March 25.

“St. Louis sports fans are truly the best in the country, and we’ve received tremendous support from fans as we continue to build the club,” said Carolyn Kindle Betz, St. Louis CITY’s President and CEO. “This match is an incredible opportunity for our fans to show up, have a great time, and show the rest of the country why we are America’s first Soccer Capital.”

Held at Saint Louis University’s Hermann Stadium, the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro match will be ticketed and cost $10 for tickets purchased in advance and $15 if purchased at the gate, pending availability. All ticketed fans who attend the first-ever STL CITY2 regular season match will be eligible to receive a new badge within the official STL CITY App and the first 2,000 fans will receive a limited-edition CITY Red rally towel. Fans interested in attending the inaugural STL CITY2 match vs. Rochester New York FC on Friday, March 25, can purchase tickets at SeatGeek.com, and the match will also be livestreamed on mlsnextpro.com.

“We are really excited to continue our mission of growing the sport of soccer across the country, while also completing our pro player pathway with the launch of MLS NEXT Pro,” said Charles Altchek, MLS NEXT Pro President. “When we were deciding on where to host the inaugural match, we wanted to pick a location with a strong soccer fanbase and a storied soccer history, and St. Louis checked all those boxes.”

The club will also celebrate St. Louis’ immense support and history while also showcasing the region’s future soccer talent during a special halftime entertainment. This match will also serve as the professional debut for some of STL CITY2’s squad as they continue on their journey to potentially play in the MLS.

“As I have said before, this is the ideal platform for our club as we prepare for our first Major League Soccer season, and we are honored to kick off the league with the first match against Rochester,” said Lutz Pfannenstiel, St. Louis CITY SC Sporting Director. “We have a talented roster with players from diverse backgrounds and this is the perfect pathway for them to make the next step and quite honestly, you could very well be seeing some of these players in the first team in the years to come. I know the players are excited to get the season started and hopefully, we will have packed stadium at all our home matches, but especially at Hermann Stadium for the season opener.”

Serving as the building block for the first team in Major League Soccer (MLS), the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season will provide fans with an opportunity to get familiar with CITY’s high-pressing, hard-working, and positively aggressive style of play, while also being able to check out players who could help build out St. Louis CITY’s first team including Josh Yaro, a former Philadelphia Union center back who will play for STL CITY2 in 2022 but is destined for the first team in 2023.

For the 2022 season, CITY2 will bring professional soccer to fans across the region with the club hosting home matches at Saint Louis University’s Hermann Stadium (5 home matches) and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Ralph Korte Stadium (6 home matches).
