After clinching the Western Conference top spot and the Frontier Division Championship, St Louis CITY2 opens postseason play against North Texas SC in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference Semifinals on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CST at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill., and can be seen live on mlsnextpro.com or can be tuned in on KMOX-AM in English and Lider Media Sports in Spanish.

The teams’ two-game season series is currently tied at 1-1, with both teams winning their home fixture. CITY2 blanked North Texas at Ralph Korte Stadium by 2-0, with goals from midfielders Vitor Dias and Wan Kuzain proving the difference on the day. In the return fixture on September 11, Bernard Kamungo’s double along with a José Mulato solo goal ensured that Dida Armstrong’s late goal wouldn’t change the course of the three points staying with the home team at Choctaw Stadium.

North Texas SC finished fourth in the Western Conference standings, posting a recording of 13-6-5 while scoring 48 goals in the process. Their talisman Kamungo (16) and his strike partner Mulato (9), are responsible for more than half of the team’s goal tally. North Texas SC has only won twice in their last eight away games, scoring 11 goals while conceding 16 in that stretch.

CITY2 finished the regular season with 51 goals in 24 games, one of three teams in the league to record 50 or more goals this season. St Louis led MLS Next Pro in goals scored outside the box (10) and fewest shots against (82). Additionally, the team had the best away form in the league, boasting an 8-3-1 record on the road. CITY2 posted a 4-1-1 record at Ralph Korte Stadium, outscoring their opponents, 10-4.

St Louis CITY2 defender Kyle Hiebert has been selected to the MLS NEXT Pro’s Best XI. Hiebert has started in all CITY2’s 24 matches in the regular season, helping the team to a first-place finish in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference in their first year of existence. Hiebert recorded three goals in the regular season while helping the team to seven clean sheets on the defensive end.
