St Louis CITY2 suffered their first defeat of the season after falling 4-0 to Minnesota United FC 2 (MNUFC2) at Hermann Stadium on Sunday night.

CITY2 had the brighter start in the opening minutes as they looked to continue their perfect run at home in MLS NEXT Pro action. However, as the game went on MNUFC2 grew into the match, which created a back-and-forth encounter with both teams creating opportunities to score. It was MNUFC2 who opened the scoring in the 22nd minute following a string of passes on the left wing. Four minutes later, they doubled their lead through Aziel Jackson. Following the goal, CITY2 fought hard to add their name on the scoresheet but MNUFC2 maintained their pressure and added a third goal just before halftime.

CITY2 Head Coach John Hackworth made a few changes at the start of the second half with the hopes of injecting some life into the team. The boys increased their intensity as they searched for their first goal of the match, but despite their efforts they could not turn the game around. In the 87th minute Justin McMaster scored his second and Minnesota’s fourth after slotting home from the penalty spot.
