Late Double from Josh Dolling Secures Three Points for CITY2
St Louis CITY2 is heading home with another big win after putting on a dominant performance against Real Monarchs. The boys controlled the match from start to finish but needed Josh Dolling’s late double to secure the three points in MLS NEXT Pro.
CITY2 started the match in scintillating fashion, generating waves and waves of attack in the opening stages of the match. As the first half went on, STL CITY2 showed their grit as they became more aggressive – with the players pressuring the Monarchs defense and forcing turnovers high up the pitch. Despite creating a plethora of chances, the ball just would not go in for CITY2. STL CITY2 maintained their pressure throughout the half, but their efforts weren’t enough to alter the scoreline before halftime.
It was all STL CITY2 in the second half with the team controlling the tempo of the match and dictating possession as they searched for the opener. As the boys continued to dominate possession, it became an onslaught of relentless attacking and counter-pressing with the Real Monarchs players pinned back deep in their half. With CITY2 controlling the game, it was only a matter of time before they found the back of the net. It was Josh Dolling who fired the boys into the lead in the 76th minute following a blistering counter-attacking move on the right side. In the 90th minute, Dolling added his and CITY2’s second goal of the match to get back to winning ways.
