STL CITY’s U17s to Compete for Seeding in Next Year’s Generation Adidas Cup
After a dominant victory at home against Minnesota United, St. Louis CITY SC’s U17s are back in action to compete in the Generation Adidas Cup Qualifiers. The five-day event will be held at SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco, California from Friday, December 3 through Tuesday, December 7. The boys will face New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, and Chicago Fire as they compete for seeding in next year’s Generation Adidas Cup.
St. Louis CITY’s U17s had a successful start in their first MLS NEXT season, posting a 7-4-4 record while staying unbeaten at home. In their final match of the fall season, they put eight past Minnesota United displaying their ruthless and intense mentality for the entire game. The team’s attack was overwhelming for the opposition, but their defensive intensity also meant that Minnesota barely threatened STL CITY’s goal. STL CITY will be eager to replicate their recent performances against some of the best academy teams in the MLS.
“It is always beneficial to compete against top teams so this tournament will be a good test for us,” explained Andreas Schumacher, St. Louis CITY Academy Head Coach. “We have another opportunity as a club to move in the right direction and what better way to do that than to play against some of the best academies in the MLS. The boys have worked hard in training and so we are going to play with confidence as we continue to define our playing style.”
STL CITY will kick off the tournament against New York Red Bulls who are currently on a nine-game unbeaten streak, with a record of 9-3-2. Following that matchup, they will face Portland Timbers (3-7-1) before closing out the qualifiers against Chicago Fire (9-2-2), who the team beat in their first MLS NEXT game earlier this season. STL CITY will look to continue its recent goalscoring surge and extend its six-game unbeaten streak.
Generation Adidas Cup Qualifiers will feature 45 MLS Academies across the U15 and U17 age divisions competing for seeding in next year’s Generation Adidas Cup. The tournament also provides an opportunity for North America’s top youth talent to be seen by college, national team, and professional coaches, scouts, and evaluators in a singular location.
