Fresh off their Ohio road trip last weekend, St. Louis CITY SC’s U17s continue their MLS NEXT season against FC Dallas’ U17s, at the Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex Field #1, October 16 at 9 a.m. CST. STL CITY will look to maintain their perfect home record this season after dropping points in their last games against Columbus Crew and FC Cincinnati.

Last weekend’s defeat against Columbus Crew was a frustrating result for the U17 team as they created the better goalscoring opportunities throughout the game but were unable to find the back of the net. STL CITY will be eager to capitalize on key moments in front of goal to give the fans more to cheer about against a strong FC Dallas team.

“We didn’t do a good job in front of goal last weekend but that’s how soccer is sometimes,” explained Luis Swisher, St. Louis CITY Academy Assistant Coach. “We have looked at the film and talked as a team about how we can continue to generate and take more of our chances. We have done a wonderful job at home this season, so we’re looking to add another good performance this weekend.”

STL CITY will face a defensively sound FC Dallas side, who have recorded clean sheets in their last two games. After losing to Houston Dynamo in their first game of the season, they have since gone on a four-game unbeaten streak, scoring 13 goals in the same period. With STL CITY seeking another home win and FC Dallas looking to continue their unbeaten streak, fans should expect an entertaining game of attacking soccer.

“It is important for us to continue focusing on how we can improve the little details,” said Elvir Kafedžić, St. Louis CITY Academy Assistant Coach. “It is going to be an exciting game this weekend against a strong side, but I have confidence in this team. Hopefully we can give our fans a reason to celebrate after the game.”

COACHES’ NOTES

Here’s what the St. Louis CITY SC Academy Coaches expect to see heading into this week’s match:

  • Stay locked in defensively – develop a habit of keeping clean sheets
  • Convert our chances – be more clinical in the opponents’ box
  • Actively repress and recover the ball as a unit
