St. Louis CITY SC Academy teams are back home to take on Austin FC Academy on Saturday, October 2. The U17 squad kicks off the action at 9 a.m. CST at Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex Field #1, while the U16 team will play in a friendly game at 11 a.m. CST.

Coming off their loss against Sporting KC this past weekend, STL CITY’s U17 team will be keen to capitalize on their goal-scoring chances while being stingy on the defensive end. Though it was not reflected in the result, the U17s controlled majority of the game, but good goalkeeping from the opposition denied the boys a chance to launch a comeback.

“We are 100% focused on the game this weekend,” explained Luis Swisher, St. Louis CITY Academy Assistant Coach. “The results have not gone our way recently, but we are seeing a lot of positive moments from the players. This game will be tough, but we are approaching it with confidence, knowing that we have a fantastic opportunity to compete in front of our home fans.”

While the U16 team did not have an official MLS NEXT game this past weekend, they played against Sporting KC’s U16 team in a friendly match. The squad had a strong start to the game but went down off a lovely team goal from Sporting KC. STL CITY equalized through a long-range strike from Zach Van Hee before sealing the victory through Jackson Delkus, who extended his goal scoring run in all competitions. The U16 team will look to add another win in all competitions when they face Austin FC U16s in a friendly match.

“I’ve been really impressed with our performances so far,” said David Critchley, St. Louis CITY Academy Assistant Coach. “The players have done the little things right and it has translated into wins. We have another chance to test ourselves against tough team, but we have prepared well, so we are looking forward to a good game.”
