After an inaugural season that saw them finish just shy of an MLS NEXT Pro Cup championship, St Louis CITY2 will begin their second season of MLS NEXT Pro play against Tacoma Defiance on Sunday, March 26 at CITYPARK. The match is slated for a 5:00 p.m. CT kickoff and will be televised on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
During the 2022 campaign, CITY2 and Tacoma Defiance played three times – twice in the regular season and once in the post-season. In the first matchup, CITY2 outlasted Tacoma Defiance in a 4-3 battle that came down to the wire before losing 5-1 in the return fixture at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA. The two Western Conference sides met again in the MLS NEXT Pro Playoff Conference Finals, and it was CITY2 who outlasted Tacoma by a score of 2-1 to move on to the championship.
The CITY2 coaching staff has undergone major changes from the staff that won the Western Conference championship last season. Head Coach Bobby Murphy is at the helm and is joined by assistant coach Chris Duvall, goalkeeper coach Tim Kelly and performance coach Sam Black.
