St. Louis CITY SC has exercised a buyout of defender Joakim Nilsson’s guaranteed contract. As a result, Nilsson will no longer occupy a Senior Roster spot, and his salary will not count against the club’s 2025 salary budget.
“Joakim has been a true professional throughout his time in St. Louis,” said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. “Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from contributing as much as he and the club would have liked. We thank him for his commitment both on and off the field and wish him and his family all the best moving forward.”
Nilsson joined CITY SC ahead of the club’s inaugural MLS season and went on to make 32 regular season appearances.
