St. Louis CITY SC acquired midfielder Jared Stroud from Austin FC in exchange for 100K in General Allocation Money, the club announced today. Stroud played the majority of his first season of MLS games and minutes under CITY SC Head Coach Bradley Carnell when Carnell was interim Head Coach with the New York Red Bulls in 2020.

“We are pleased to add Jared to our squad,” said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. “He brings good experience in MLS and understands the way that we want to play on the field. We hope to see him have a quick transition within the team.”

Stroud, 26, is familiar with the playing style that Head Coach Bradley Carnell is implementing at St. Louis having played three professional seasons in the New York Red Bulls organization, two years with Red Bulls II and one year with the New York Red Bulls. In his first two seasons at the USL Championship level, the Chester, New Jersey, native compiled 22 goals and five assists in 62 appearances and was named a 2019 USL Championship All-League First Team honoree. Stroud’s strong 2019 season garnered a first-team contract for 2020 and featured 21 times at the MLS level with three assists across all competitions.

Following his first season in MLS, Stroud was selected in the 2021 MLS Expansion draft by Austin FC. In two seasons with the Verde, he recorded 27 appearances and 13 starts with one goal and four assists.
