St Louis CITY2 returns to Energizer Park for a two-game homestand kicking things off against Portland Timbers2 on Friday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.

CITY2 picked up their fifth win of the season last Sunday against Minnesota United FC 2 from National Sports Center Stadium. Mykhi Joyner’s first goal of the afternoon came from the penalty spot and just five minutes later, he scored his second goal on a combination play between Emil Jääskeläinen and Miguel Perez. The Loons scored two goals to tie things up, but Miguel Perez scored in the 85th minute to give CITY2 three points on the day. Joyner now leads CITY2 in goals scored (4). Perez had two goal contributions (one goal, one assist) while Jääskeläinen earned his team leading third assist of the season. The win was coach David Critchley’s fifth as CITY2’s head coach.

CITY2 have had plenty of success at home this season dropping just one match and conceding only two goals at Energizer Park. CITY2 has shut out their opponents at home twice and has picked up seven out of 12 possible points.

St Louis will play Portland Timbers2 for the first time this season on Friday. The two teams faced each other once last year at Energizer Park with CITY2 winning 5-3 in the penalty shootout. CITY2 is 1-0-1 against Timbers2 having played them once in 2023 and last season. This year, the squads will play twice with the final meeting occurring on the last game of the regular season on October 5 at Providence Park.

Timbers2 sit in seventh place in MLS NEXT Pro standings with 15 points and a 4-4-2 record. Away from Providence Park, Timbers2 are 1-1-1 with their last away win coming on April 23 as they defeated Ventura County FC 3-2. Portland is on a three-game win streak, earning upsets against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, LAFC2, and Tacoma Defiance. However, all of those wins have occurred at home for Timbers2. Forward Gage Guerra leads Timbers2 in goals scored with four while forward Kyle Linhares has notched three goals and a team leading three assists.
