CITY2 tied 2-2 against Colorado Rapids 2 last Sunday, but earned an extra point after defeating them 5-4 in a shootout. Miguel Perez opened the scoring in first half stoppage time, tallying his sixth goal of the season. Rapids 2 scored twice in the second half but Mykhi Joyner earned his thirteenth goal of the season, scoring from the penalty spot in the 81st minute. After regulation, the match went to penalty kicks with Christian Olivares making a crucial save and Brendan McSorley striking the game winning penalty kick. St Louis extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games and pushed their lead in MLS NEXT Proās Western Conference standings to 11 points (48 overall).
St Louisā two homegrowns Miguel Perez and Mykhi Joyner have each contributed to eight and sixteen goals respectively in 2025. Joyner sits in second place in the Golden Boot race and leads the league in penalty goals scored with eight.
North Texas SC sits in seventh place in the Western Conference with 31 points and a 8-8-4 record. At Choctaw Stadium this year, NTX holds a 4-4-1 record but havenāt won a game at home since July 3. Forward Sam Sarver leads North Texas and the league in goals scored with 15 while midfielder Anthony RamĆrez leads the team with six assists. NTXās last outing was against Austin FC II, with North Texas winning 6-5 on penalty kicks.
CITY2 has had plenty of success against North Texas SC this season earning a 3-0 shutout to open the 2025 season, and most recently winning 2-0 on June 4.
