St Louis CITY2 closes out their two-game homestand against North Texas SC on Wednesday night at Energizer Park as they look to extend their two-game win streak. The match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
CITY2 found the back of the net six times against Portland Timbers2 on Friday night, earning their sixth win of the season. The goal fest began in the eighth minute as Mykhi Joyner notched his first of four goals from the penalty spot. Timbers2 scored twice and entered halftime with a 2-1 lead but, in the second half, Joyner found the back of the net three more times, scoring each goal within a 12-minute span.
Brendan McSorley tallied his third professional brace during the match with assists coming from Seth Antwi and Eduard Löwen. With the win, CITY2 moved up to third place in MLS NEXT Pro’s Western Conference standings. Through five games at Energizer Park this season, CITY2 is 3-1-1.
It was the Mykhi Joyner show on Friday night as he became the first player in CITY SC history to record four goals in a single match. Joyner became the fifth player all time in MLS NEXT Pro to tally four goals in a match. He was rewarded for his outstanding performance as he was named MLS NEXT Pro’s Player of Matchweek 11. Additionally, Joyner’s strike from outside the box earned him MLS NEXT Pro’s Goal of Matchweek 11 honors.
On Wednesday night CITY SC technical director John Hackworth will fill in as CITY2’s interim head coach while David Critchley assumes a caretaker manager role for CITY SC’s first team. CITY2’s Assistant Coach Baggio Hušidić will join Critchley with the first team as well on an interim basis.
St Louis kicked off their 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season against North Texas SC, thrashing them in a 3-0 shutout. An own goal and tallies from Brendan McSorley and Miguel Perez gave CITY2 their first three points of the season back on March 9. The final regular season meeting between the teams will be on August 16 at Choctaw Stadium.
North Texas enters Wednesday’s meeting in second place in the Western Conference but is only one point ahead of CITY2 with 21 points. NTX were able to win a close 3-2 match against Tacoma Defiance on Sunday, May 25 and ride a four-game win streak defeating The Town FC, Minnesota United FC 2, Houston Dynamo 2, and Tacoma. Away from home, North Texas is 3-1-1, falling 5-1 against Houston Dynamo 2 on March 23 for their only away loss. Forward Sam Sarver leads North Texas in goals scored with seven while midfielder Anthony Ramírez has notched three assists.
