Match Preview | St Louis CITY2 Looks to Extend Six-Game Unbeaten Streak This Saturday Against Sporting KC II

St Louis CITY2 heads across state lines to face Sporting KC II on Saturday, September 5, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. CT at Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village. The match will be streamed on MLSNEXTPro.com and OneFootball. 

CITY2 faced North Texas SC last Friday night, tying 1-1 in regulation and eventually falling 8-7 in the ensuing penalty shootout. Sidney Paris scored his first goal of the season early in the first half off an assist from a Nighte Pickering assist. North Texas equalized in first-half stoppage time, with the score remaining the same through the full 90 minutes. St. Louis sits in sixth place in the Western Conference standings with 40 points and a 9-7-9 record.  

Since joining CITY2 in July, Pickering has been on a strong run, recording four goal contributions (three goals, one assist) in his last three games for the club. The forward was named MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 24 on August 18. 

Saturday’s match will be the final meeting of the season between Kansas City and St. Louis. CITY2 and SKC have faced each other twice this season, in February and March, with St. Louis earning two shutout wins. The first match was the season opener at Energizer Park, with Evan Carlock, Patrick McDonald, Kyle Hiebert, and Cooper Forcellini scoring in the 4-0 win. The teams' second meeting occurred on March 28 in Kansas City, with Palmer Ault and Cooper Forcellini scoring to secure the 2-0 win. 

CITY2 is 9-1-3 all-time against Sporting KC II and can complete the season sweep on Saturday night. 

Sporting KC II enters Saturday won a five-match winless streak with an 0-4-1 record. Kansas City faced Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 last Sunday at Swangard Stadium, falling 5-1. Forwards Kashan Hines and Missael Rodríguez lead the team with seven goals apiece, while midfielder Shane Donovan leads the team with three assists.
