St Louis CITY2 hosts North Texas SC on Friday, August 28, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. CT at Energizer Park. The match will be streamed on MLSNEXTPro.com and OneFootball.Â
CITY2 played to a 2-2 draw against Houston Dynamo 2 last weekend at Energizer Park, eventually falling 3-1 in the ensuing penalty shootout. Houston scored first in the 17th minute, carrying their 1-0 lead into halftime. Dynamo 2 found their second goal of the night three minutes into the second half. St. Louis cut Houston’s lead in half with a goal from Nighte Pickering. Zack Lillington scored the equalizer in the 85th minute, sending the match to a shootout. Despite the shootout loss, CITY2 extended their unbeaten streak to five matches. Â
During the match, Pickering scored his third goal of the season and extending his scoring streak to two matches, tallying three goals over that span. Lillington scored his second goal of the season. Riley Lynch recorded his ninth assist of the year, tying him for second in MLS NEXT Pro for overall assists. Â
Friday’s match will be the final meeting of the season between North Texas and St. Louis. CITY2 and NTX have faced each other twice this season, with each team earning one win. St. Louis won the first meeting 2-0 in late May at Energizer Park. North Texas won 3-0 on July 4 at Mansfield Stadium. Â
St. Louis has the upper hand in the regular-season series against North Texas with a 6-4-2 record. Since the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season in 2022, CITY2 has been undefeated at Energizer Park against NTX, posting a 5-0-2 record across all competitions and scoring 15 goals. Â
North Texas enters Friday winless in their last three matches with a 0-1-2 record playing Timbers2, Austin FC II, and Minnesota United FC 2. The club sits in ninth place in the Western Conference with a 7-8-8 record and 33 points. Midfielder Edouard Nys leads the team with nine goals and five assists.
