Following a two-match road trip, St. Louis CITY SC returns to Energizer Park this Saturday to face San Jose Earthquakes. First Match in Charge
St. Louis CITY SC announced the release of the club’s head coach, Olof Mellberg. Current CITY2 head coach, David Critchley will assume first team manager responsibilities and will manage his first match against the Quakes on Saturday. One of CITY SC’s first sporting hires back in 2021, Critchley led CITY2 to a 6-4-1 record so far this year, with 20 goals scored and a point per game of 1.82.

Last Time Out
St. Louis is coming off a 1-0 loss to Colorado Rapids in their last match at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park. CITY SC and the Rapids played through eight minutes of the first half before the match entered a weather delay. After the weather delay, CITY created numerous chances to score, but it was Colorado that struck first before halftime with a goal from Darren Yapi, which was the eventual winner.

St. Louis CITY SC vs San Jose Earthquakes
St. Louis is undefeated against San Jose in all four of their previous meetings, earning a clean sheet in both matches (3-0 W, 2-0 W) played in St. Louis. In the last match against San Jose, both Cedric Teuchert and Marcel Hartel found the back of the net while Jannes Horn also recorded his first assist for CITY SC. St. Louis has scored nine goals total in their regular season meetings against the Earthquakes dating back to 2023.

Scouting San Jose Earthquakes
San Jose enters Saturday afternoon’s matchup with a 6-6-4 record, tallying 33 goals. The Earthquakes have only won two games on the road, coming against Sporting Kansas City in March and Colorado Rapids in May. Chicho Arango, the Quakes Designated Player, has scored a team-leading nine goals while midfielder Cristian Espinoza has notched eight assists on the season, which leads all of MLS. San Jose faced Houston Dynamo last weekend in a high scoring affair that ended in a 3-3 tie. The Earthquakes defeated LA Galaxy 1-0 on Wednesday at Dignity Health Sports Park after a lone goal from Ousseni Bouda in the 73’.
