A Look at the Last Match
St. Louis CITY SC defeated LA Galaxy 3-0 on the road last weekend, earning their first win of the 2025 MLS season. Cedric Teuchert, Simon Becher and Marcel Hartel scored the goals for CITY SC in the match, marking the second time all three players scored in the same match for CITY SC (last time was against Portland Timbers on August 9, 2024). The result also meant Olof Mellberg recorded his first win as CITY SC’s head coach following draws in the opening two matches of the season. Following their performance, Cedric Teuchert and Roman Bürki were named to the Team of the Matchday.
No Goals Conceded
CITY SC Roman Bürki made eight saves en route to his 18th MLS career clean sheet against LA Galaxy. Bürki was voted as the MLS Player of The Matchday for Matchday 3. The shutout meant St. Louis recorded its third consecutive clean sheet to start the 2025 season. This is the first instance in CITY SC history that the team recorded three consecutive clean sheets. St. Louis has only earned two consecutive clean sheets four other time in club history (the other three being from March 18-25, 2023, July 1-8, 2023, and April 6-14, 2024). Following this past weekend’s result across the league, CITY SC is the only remaining team in the MLS to have not conceded a goal. With the shutout, St. Louis became the fifth team in the past decade and the 11th in MLS history to not concede a goal in the first three games of a season. Only two MLS teams (New York Red Bulls in 2007 and Vancouver in 2012) have started the season with four consecutive shutouts.
CITY SC vs Seattle Sounders
St. Louis CITY SC will be looking for their first win against Seattle after falling in the four previous matches between the two sides. The team’s only goal from their matchups against the Sounders came from Tomas Totland last season on March 25. Seattle is the only opponent St. Louis has faced more than once without ever earning at least a point.
Scouting Seattle Sounders
Seattle Sounders enter Saturday’s contest with a 1-1-1 record, recently defeating LAFC 5-2 at home. Jordan Morris leads the Sounders with three goals while Albert Rusnák has a team-high three assists. Seattle also competed in CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16, tying Cruz Azul 0-0 in their first leg and falling 4-1 in their second leg. With Tuesday night’s loss, the Sounders have been eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
