St. Louis CITY SC fell 2-1 last Saturday in a close match against MLS’ newest expansion team, San Diego FC. The score remained even through the first half, but San Diego struck first in the 79th minute with a goal from Milan Iloski. SDFC went on to add another goal seven minutes later. Kyle Hiebert got his first goal of the season for CITY SC in stoppage time, but it was not enough as San Diego FC picked up the win and three points.
St. Louis CITY SC vs Sporting Kansas City
This will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two clubs. CITY SC lost 2-0 in April at Children's Mercy Park but holds a 3-2-2 edge in regular-season matchups. At home, CITY is undefeated, with dominant wins (4-0, 4-1 in 2023; 3-1 in 2024), scoring 11 and conceding just two. João Klauss leads CITY with three goals in the rivalry while Eduard Löwen and Célio Pompeu have two each.

Sporting Kansas City enters Wednesday night after falling 1-0 to Portland Timbers on Saturday. SKC is 3-8-1 this season and are 1-5-0 away from Children’s Mercy Park. Sporting Kansas City’s only win on the road this season came against San Jose Earthquakes nearly one month ago, earning a 5-3 win. Dejan Joveljić leads the team with five goals.
